A meeting was called for the Birds of Prey. Oracle, confined to a wheelchair, escorted a young, busty, brown-eyed, athletic girl before the group and introduced her as Earthworm Woman (EW). Poison Ivy (PI) drank in EW. She noticed that EW was wearing a brown and pink costume that included a hood and goggles. PI also noticed that EW's earthworm insignia was blazened across her chest. PI's heart skipped a beat.
Oracle asked EW to describe her special powers. She said that she has the power to burrow through earth at high speed, Hence the hood and goggles. She has a special radar sense allowing her to "see" what's going on underground. While underground she can sense what is going on above ground.
EW can detect rocks, tree roots and other obstacles underground. She can, cause things to decompose at will, she is extremely flexible and very strong. Since she only recently gained her powers, the full extent of said powers was unknown. If needed she could run fast.
Oracle assigned Black Canary (BC) to work with EW and see if she is Birds of Prey material. After the meeting PI asked EW what her story was. EW said "To understand me, you need to realize I love earthworms, they are beautiful wonderful creatures." She said she was studying earthworms for her doctoral dissertation She said that she was hit by lightning as she was conducting an earthworm census. She said further that she gained her new powers as a result of the lightning strike. She finished her doctoral program and received her PhD not long ago. They got on BG's motor cycle and EW held on tight as they began their patrol.
BC reported to Oracle that the patrol was uneventful but that EW kept her cool and showed during the patrol. It was decided to give EW more training. EW's alter ego worked as a research scientist at a Wayne Industries financed lab.
